The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
