The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series created by the show's creator starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
