Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of High Performance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a historic £11m in earnings.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking extended hiatus after the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
