Homages Continue for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight following the shocking loss of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the duo.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he finally felt prepared to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has passed that I can now express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner created an instant bond. "When we commenced spending more time together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the production, commenting that he cannot recall "any day without laughter".
"This story is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob cherished deeply. Which is among the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, noting: "Asserting that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still hurts every time I think of you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Fellow Artist
In a different essay, revered director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he grasped the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles court official agreed to prevent the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A judicial mandate issued a security hold on the cases to limit the public release of "all case details, evidence and photographs" connected to the probe.
The relevant authority had earlier stated their deaths were the result of murder, with a public database noting the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the deaths, public individuals expressed different responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, providing controversial remarks that were widely condemned by numerous public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his criticism to the critics last week. Talking on his podcast, Rogan characterized the comments as "disappointing" and suggested they showed a troubling deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan finished by remarking that an associate should have stepped in when the choice to comment on the death was made.
