Eric Adams Will Support Former Governor Andrew Cuomo in NYC Mayor's Election

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced his decision to endorse former Governor Cuomo in the upcoming election for mayor, despite months of public tension between the two Democratic figures.

An Unexpected Turnaround After Recent Criticism

Just last month, the mayor had lashed out at the former governor, describing him as a “snake and a untruthful person” and alleging of having “a career of marginalizing Black political contenders.” Yet, in a recent development, Adams reversed course, revealing he now plans to appear with Cuomo in neighborhoods where he holds strong support.

“It's essential to mobilize the Black and brown communities that have suffered from urban displacement on how critical this election is,” the mayor commented.

Adams continued, “Residents have seen their housing costs rise due to neighborhood changes and they have been overlooked in those areas, and I’m going to go to those communities and speak one on one with organizers and groups and I will appear with the former governor in those neighborhoods and get them motivated.”

Race Dynamics and Current Developments

The mayoral contest has so far been shaped by the competition between Cuomo and progressive candidate Zohran Mamdani, whose increasing popularity has drawn interest worldwide and symbolized hopes for a rejuvenated leftwing of the Democratic party.

During a latest candidate forum, both the democratic socialist and Republican nominee his conservative opponent announced they would decline the mayor's support if offered.

Earlier this year, the mayor had begun his re-election campaign as an independent after facing legal accusations which were later dropped in return for his assistance with government enforcement actions across New York City.

At an unrelated press conference on Thursday, Adams answered reporters inquiring into the support announcement by saying, “Andrew and I will appear together this evening.”

The announcement followed a day after the two politicians were spotted attending a game side-by-side at the New York Knicks’ first game at the famous arena, which occurred right after a contentious candidate debate.
